Tag Ball® Game Rules
Variation of Traditional Billiard Games Using Bobble Ball®
Play with a cue stick!!!
Many popular traditional billiard games may also be played with Bobble Ball. The game of "Tag Ball" incorporates a unique strategy into traditional billiard rules because it requires that players must always "tag" Bobble Ball with the cue ball in order to earn the right to continue their turn to shoot at and possibly pocket a numbered billiard ball on the table surface. By inserting this "tag" requirement, players are challenged to plan their shots not only based on the location of the next billiard ball, but also on the location of Bobble Ball (which may have "bobbled" to an unintended location). The following two rules provide a summary for the successful play of Tag Ball (click "Eight Ball Tag Game Rules" and "Nine Ball Tag Game Rules" link to the left for a more detailed explanation):
1. An incoming player must legally "tag" Bobble Ball with the cue ball in order to earn the right to continue his or her turn. If Bobble Ball is successfully tagged, then the player may continue his turn and make a shot attempt at pocketing a billiard ball. If Bobble Ball is not successfully tagged, then the player loses his turn and the new incoming player has an opportunity to tag Bobble Ball. A player must always legally tag Bobble Ball prior to making a shot attempt at pocketing a billiard ball. (See the "Tag Ball Flow Chart" below).
2. In order for a tag to be considered legal, a player must tag Bobble Ball with the cue ball by banking the cue ball against a minimum of one rail first before contacting Bobble Ball. After the cue ball contacts a rail, the tag is considered successful if the cue ball tags, or contacts, Bobble Ball. It does not matter if the cue ball touches any other billiard balls in the tagging attempt as long as the cue ball has contacted a rail first and has successfully tagged Bobble Ball. PLAYERS SHOULD NEVER SHOOT THE CUE BALL OR ANY OTHER BALL DIRECTLY AT BOBBLE BALL.
